Day 6: OBERTRAUN - HALLSTATT - BAD ISCHL - ST. WOLFGANG - ST.GILGEN - GRAZ

Monday, June 28, 2010

This morning we started with a very complete breakfast at our Apartment Hotel Seerose hotel and surrounded by a spectacular landscape that surrounds Hallstatt, the most beautiful village in Austria.

Obertraun

After having breakfast and carrying our bags to our rental car in Austria, we have gone directly to the lake, to take a few photos and relax first thing in the morning.

Obertraun

After this, we have set off for Hallstatt less than 10 minutes from Obertraun where we have parked in one of the parking lots outside the town.
From a distance we can see why they say that Hallstatt is "the most beautiful village in the world on the banks of a lake" or "the most beautiful village in Austria".

Hallstatt, the most beautiful village in Austria

We stop in every corner of the town and in every street to take pictures, it is inevitable in an environment like this.

Hallstatt, the most beautiful village in Austria

We see many people walking through Hallstatt streets in spite of being early in the morning.

After touring Hallstatt, we have gone directly to the church and to Hallstatt Ossuary.

Hallstatt

The views of Hallstatt from the cemetery are very good. Although the photos are somewhat "rare", seeing the cemetery in the foreground, to see the town in the background.

Hallstatt, the most beautiful village in Austria

After this, we have gone to the first terrace at the entrance of the town of Hallstatt, from where you have an impressive view of the village at the foot of the lake. It is certainly one of the most beautiful places to see in Austria.

When we realized, it was half past 12, so we went in search of the car to go directly to Bad ischl.

Hallstatt

There we tried to find the palace where Sissí spent the summers and after taking a walk and seeing that we did not meet him, we decided to go to St. Wolfang, since we didn't like the town very much.
It takes about 20 minutes to arrive and we see that this area is full of tourists. We expected more calm, although, despite that, it is still a beautiful town. But of course, comparing it with Hallstatt ... Yes, we already know that comparisons are odious, but inevitable in this case.

We have gone to lunch and after having a well-loaded coffee, we have gone to St. Gilgen, where we had the idea of going up to the funicular to see the landscapes, but in the end we have “cracked”.
We do not want to do any trail and where the funicular leaves, you only see the lake from above, with a price of 20 euros per person, which we believe we will not enjoy as much as we did yesterday traveling the Grossglockner road.
So in the end we have gone for a walk around the town and take advantage of relaxing by eating ice cream.
We have been sitting by the lake and have seen too much tourism, the truth is that this area has disappointed us a bit. We expected much quieter villages, like those of the Tyrol we saw the other day.

Austrian landscapes

After this, it's 5 in the afternoon and we only have to get on our way to Graz, which is our next stop.
It took us 2 and a half hours to arrive and once we were accommodated in our hotel, the Mercure Graz City Hotel, we went out in search of a restaurant for dinner.
It has been a difficult task, since we have been hanging around for a long time, finding nothing.
Until in the end we have found one, with an inner courtyard, where we had dinner very well, although they have been a bit slow. Everything can not have.
Now we will rest, that tomorrow we have a visit to the city throughout the day.
Today we are left with the vision of Hallstat from the terrace having a soda. The most beautiful village in Europe on the banks of a lake.
