Day 7: FLORENCE - PISA - GIRONA

Today we wake up at 7 in the morning, after a night in which we have rested as children, although the hotel was not everything we could expect. In a few hours we will take a train from Florence to Pisa to catch the flight from Pisa to Girona, which will take us home, or so we hope, because with the last minute cancellation, we cannot confirm anything yet.
Today we have the idea of returning to tour the most emblematic places of Florence, hoping to find less people to be able to enjoy them with more tranquility.
And of course, enjoy the gastronomy this last day we spent in Italy.

We have breakfast at the Hotel Basilea, by the way in the face of a very unfortunate lack of hygiene and before 8 am we are already in the streets of Florence ready to expand our collection of photographs of the city.
We make the first stop, how could it be otherwise, in the famous Duomo, which looks amazing at this time of the morning.

We follow our path and as we did yesterday, our first day in Florence, we arrived at Piazza della Signoría, which at this time presents itself with far fewer people than we were yesterday.

After a walk around Piazza della Signoria we go to the Republic Square, passing before the famous Porcellino Market.

From here we continue our way until we reach the most emblematic place of Florence, the Ponte Vecchio.

The Ponte Vecchio

Once here we begin to see that the weather begins to cloud and it seems that it threatens a storm, but still, we continue with our firm conviction to get ahead of the tourist groups and continue touring the city with the solitude that this hour of the morning.

When we have already traveled all the points we had in our mental planning, we approached the Santa María Novella Station to check the schedules of train from Florence to Pisa, which is the one that will take us so that we can take our flight from Pisa to Girona.
Being next to the station we cannot miss the opportunity to approach the well-known Santa María Novella, one of the most beautiful churches in the city.

When it is almost 12 noon, we stop for coffee and relax, which is also necessary to enjoy a well-deserved rest after the early morning we have hit.
We take these moments to start planning future trips and that is that whenever we are on the last day of any of our trips, we are almost obliged to start dreaming about another, so it seems that the farewell is more bearable.
After a good while jumping from one destination to another in our mind, we decided that it is time to continue with our last day in Florence, that in no time we are on time to take the flight from Pisa to Girona And come home
When we are looking for a place to eat, almost without warning they start to drop some drips that do even damage, so we enter the first place we see, the Mariano Florence Tratoria, without a doubt, the worst choice we could have made in the whole city.
Look that it is difficult to make bad food in Italy, because we went to fall in the place that made it worse.
Of course, it makes us think that since there is nothing that happens for nothing, since this is a bad gastronomic farewell, we will have to return shortly to Italy.

After eating and knowing that in the restaurant we were not going to stay for coffee, we go to a cafe near the hotel to drink coffee and make the table before going to collect our bags and go to the station to get the train from Florence to Pisa that in 1 hour (some others in 1.28 minutes), you will leave us at the Pisa Central Station.
We arrived in Pisa at 16.28 in the afternoon and we go straight to take the PisaMover, which for the fourth time will take us to the airport, we hope this time it is to really take the flight from Pisa to Girona Take us home.
And as soon as we arrive at the airport and stand in front of a screen, we see that our flight that left at 19.35 is delayed at 23.05 at night.
We cannot believe it, so we ask and confirm that there is indeed such a delay. So we have no other than to set up our "tent", near some outlets and so spend the hours we have reviewed the photos we have made, the notes for the newspapers ...
It is clear that Italy does not want us to return home.
And so at 23.15, finally, take off our flight from Pisa to Girona, in which, by the way, we have been assigned emergency seats.
At 12.30 in the morning we landed in Girona and we went straight to look for the car that Luck to Looking4Parking has been safe these days and when we called to warn of the delay and cancellation of the flight, they offered us all kinds of facilities to notify them to parking and manage the new reservation.
We arrived home after 1 am. Will this count as one more day of travel?
Cinque Terre we will never forget you, not only because of your wonderful villages, but also because you allowed us to rediscover Pisa and Florence.
