We already suggest 35 things to do in Venice, but what about what we should avoid? Here you have a list with the things that are better not to do in Venice (so that later you say we don't let you know ...)

If you want more information of Venice, visit our GUIDE TO A TRIP TO VENICE

1) DO NOT SPEND € 80 FOR A WALK IN GONDOLA

I do not say that it is not worth it, if you can afford it, but haggle! Is that for a backpacker € 80 is a lot of money -_- But if you have the illusion of climbing and sailing in a gondola there is a much cheaper (and less romantic) option: you can go up to a “traghetto” gondola than for the price of 1 -2 € will take you from one side of the Canal Grande to the other.

It is mostly used by Venetians to save time. Note that the "service" works only at certain times. The best and longest section is from S. Tomoma to S. Angelo.

2) DO NOT TAKE COFFEE IN PIAZZA SAN MARCO

Ordering a coffee sitting on a terrace of a bar in San Marco square is a luxury, and not only because of the priceless views: at least one espresso (coffee only) will cost you 5€ Not to mention capuccino, shakerati coffee, and various "specialties." Two drinks can cost € 25-30! Of course, if there are musicians playing the account, it will be even more expensive since the bar charges “the musical service”.

3) DO NOT TRUST THE TOURIST MENUS

A first, a second and a dessert for € 10-15? Whereas you're in Venice not bad! Error: never trust these offers! Always ask if drinks are included, in some restaurant the real deal is made with water-coke & co! A liter of water can cost € 6! (One way to spend less is to refill the bottle in drinking water sources).

Also keep in mind that in Italy in almost 100% of the restaurants you will have to add the cost of “coperto”Which includes the service and the use of a fork, knife, glass, plate… Normally it costs between € 1-2 depending on the type of restaurant.

In this post we recommend several restaurants where you can eat well and cheaply in Venice.

4) DO NOT TRAVEL WITH SUITCASE

If you are lucky enough to sleep in Venice, do not travel with a suitcase: the amount of stairs and bridges there will surprise you and it is much more comfortable to travel with a backpack.

5) DON'T BE AFRAID TO LOSE YOU

Even if you follow the directions to the most important points of the city, be sure that sooner or later you will get lost. And it will be the best thing that can happen to you: only by moving away from the tourist Venice you can appreciate the life of the true Venice!

Tip: don't forget to download the MyMaps APP and the map of Venice 🙂

6) DO NOT PICNIC IN PIAZZA SAN MARCO

Many tourists prepare sandwiches and sit in Piazza San Marco to enjoy a special meal. Well, you know that if you get caught “i carabinieri” (the Italian police) they can fine you! If you want you can go to the "Giardinetti Reali" very close to San Marco and enjoy your blessed sandwich in peace!

7) DO NOT WET YOUR FEET IN THE CHANNELS

Do you remember when in the Simpsons you see a fish with three eyes? Well, if you don't want another 3 fingers to come out, don't touch the water of Venice! Especially if there is high water: many guiris take off their shoes as if they were in a remake of “I'm singing 'in the rain (water)” but they do not know that the water where they are jumping is that of the sea mixed with that of sewers. And maybe you even find a rat with whom to make a musical duo. Brrrr

8) DO NOT GO ON BICYCLE / SKATES

Is prohibited. Although some genius invented an alternative way to go by bicycle: from the series “made the law made the trap”! What we do recommend you do is sign up for a free tour (free tours, based on tips). You can make the generic one, the one with the legends (or both, of course).

9) DO NOT EAT ONLY PASTA AND PIZZA

The Veneto cuisine is very varied and there are very good dishes! We have prepared a gastronomic guide for Venice that will suit you very well.

10) DO NOT LIFT UP AFTERNOON

To whom early in the morning God helps. And the city, with the first lights of day, will give you a very photogenic face. And you won't have to dodge the heads of thousands of tourists to take a picture.

Do you have other recommendations of things not to do in Venice? What would you avoid? (removing the pigeon poops ?!)
