There are lots of things to see and do in St. Petersburg, so to be able to enjoy them all you will have no choice but to stop and refuel in one of its restaurants. It can also be a great excuse to wear a little like Tato, but with different cuisines and recipes. There are thousands of options in the city and we have generally eaten very well. As we know that the gastronomic issue worries more than one (and more in a country like Russia), in this post we will recommend 12 restaurants to eat in St. Petersburg (good and cheap).

It is difficult to travel to Russia and not end here (at least) once: let's say it's the Russian response to fast food, since here you can try, at a very good price, typical dishes such as borsch soup, Russian dumplings, pancakes (sweet and savory) and other main dishes (all very forceful). As for prices, it is very cheap: you eat for less than € 5 quietly. We did not go here, but in Moscow yes and for a breakfast or one snack (or a fast food) is fine. There are several scattered throughout St. Petersburg, in its local version or just a kiosk.

It is a type restaurant buffet, so you can try several dishes at the same time, remember that in Russia the vast majority of buffets are NOT “all you can eat”: you simply pass with your tray through some counters and ask for what you most want. Prices: € 5-8 / person, depending on what you eat and the amount of dishes (the soups are very cheap, for example). It also has interesting breakfast offers (for one € 2-3 you eat like a king!). It is one of our favorite places to eat in St. Petersburg.

It is one of the restaurants best rated on Tripadvisor, so we decided to give it a try since we were staying quite close and we loved it. Everything was great: from the local (beautiful), to the attention of the waiters (super friendly) and the food (mmmm!). It is rather a place for have breakfast or make brunch, but good news: the breakfast menu is until 17 hehe. There are also à la carte dishes that are always available (salty and sweet). Average price to eat: € 10-12 / person with 2 main courses (or 1 plate and a dessert), drink and coffee. We had a pumpkin soup, bruschetta with poached eggs and bacon, rice with mushrooms and bread with butters. With beer, coke and two coffees we paid about € 22. Highly recommended! And we liked it so much that we went back to breakfast a few days later ...

It will not take long to run into a place of this buffet style restaurant chain: They are scattered throughout downtown St. Petersburg and you will recognize them by their tails. Here the operation is simple: you take a tray, choose a plate (or plates) and pay according to what you have taken (as in the Ikea, go). We pay about € 7 between the two, it is one of the cheaper sites We saw in the city. Tip: there are some stuffed rolls (russian pie they call them), try the ham and cheese (only worth 25r, less than € 0.40!). We also tried cooked vegetables, Greek salad, meatball, baked potatoes and brownie. The only downside is that the meat was somewhat cold ... but I repeat: if you want a place to eat cheap, it is luxurious.

It is paradise for lovers of dumplings, ravioli and all kinds of stuffed pasta (in Russia the most famous are the “pelmeni"). Really, the menu is almost infinite so we recommend you take a look online before you go so as not to overwhelm you with so much choice. We tried different types and fillings and we liked them all. They also have soups and creams to accompany. All delicious and cheap.

Other buffet site, with rich dishes and very good quality, the truth is that it is one of our favorite options to eat cheaply in St. Petersburg. There is quite a variety of dishes (from salads and soups, to main dishes very strong, from pastas to wok dishes). There are also options veg. Of all the buffet restaurants we saw ... this is without a doubt the best quality (and presentation) it has, or that is what it has seemed to us. In addition the premises are very cool and have a cafeteria part where you can enjoy a nice rate.

Want to Pizza? ¿Pasta? This place is not the typical Italian to use, but it is very good (and the site is of those handsome!). It probably won't be the best pizza you eat in your life, but it's not bad (it also has very interesting breakfast / brunch options). Prices: for € 10 (or less) you have main course and drink. This is a tad off the center, but if you plan to take the ferry, it is more or less close to the terminal.

We discovered this restaurant specialized in barbecue almost by chance and if you feel like transporting yourself to the United States, if only with your palate ... you have to come and try it! The menu is extensive, although if you go two we believe that the best thing is the slash of 5 different types of meat (it costs a little less than € 20 and is perfect for sharing).

The Thai food It is one of our favorites, so in St. Peterburg we decided to look for a Thai and this was the chosen one. The place is rare: to access you have to climb to the second floor of a building of those old but charming, and once there, the design and decoration is very careful. It's simple but with hipster touches, the guys who run it very nice and speak English. We tried yellow curry and it was very tasty (the portion is scarce but the truth is that we stayed well). You can also order a free bottle of water (in Russia it is not common). Price: 350R (about € 5).

This is another suggestion nothing Russian ...japanese! Don't you know what are the takoyakis? It is a Japanese street food specialty that consists of octopus-filled crepe balls, which are addictive! It is a perfect solution for those who want to eat something rich, fast and cheap and for those who want to change some airs (gastronomic). The menu is very simple: there are takoyakis of various types, onigiri, soups and hot drinks. We recommend octopus takoyakis (the original ones), a salmon onigiri and matcha tea. Price approx: € 6.

Is a legendary local city, here the best ones are prepared “donut”From all over Russia (or so they say). And they are very cheap: with one euro you buy 4! It is a good place to have breakfast or snack, and we recommend you try them with a coffee, tea or juice. In addition the cafeteria is very flirtatious! Come on, an essential stop if you need to recharge energy.

We found this place a little gem. It specializes in Georgian food and it is a real delight, both in terms of decoration and taste. Come on, we loved it. Try the Khinkali, Georgian dumplings (45r per piece), the khachapuri (a stuffed bread, usually cheese and egg) and some main dish (usually meat-based, very tasty). Average price per person: € 8-10. Curiosity: it was the only place where they gave us gloves to eat the Khinkalis and explained how to do it. If you want to learn, you know where to come 😉
