If we already talk to you about the foodies experiences that you should live in the Big Apple, today we are going to recommend a few restaurants where to eat in New York well and cheap, because it is not true that the city is very expensive and that the only option not to ruin you is to make tuna sandwiches in the hostel. Not even a piece of beer: in New York you can eat well, for a few dollars.

In the first part of the post we will recommend some of our favorite restaurants. In the second part we will tell you places to eat pizza, hamburguer, hot dogs (typical food, my friends), then dumplings, delis and we even have a section with free food (yes, you heard correctly).

And don't forget to take a look at the 100 things to see and do in New York!

The Arepa Lady. In other words, arepa and start thinking about Colombia, Venezuela or Panama, but you are from The Arepa Lady have nothing to envy. For $ 5 you can enjoy arepas with cheese and butter and for $ 8 arepas with cheese, butter and chicken. Mmm! Drinks are cheap, from $ 1.25. In full Queens.

Wah Fung Fast Food. Do not miss queuing: pay $ 4.25 for a plate of rice with pork sooooo rich, but sooooo rich, it deserves it! You can also opt for chicken but believe me: pork and triumphs. It's in Chinatown so if you want to continue eating later, go for the dumplings as I told you before 🙂

Brothers. These Mexican tortilleria is located in the heart of Bushwick, one of the most modern and fashionable neighborhoods of New York. Here there are quesadillas and cakes at $ 5 and order of 3 tacos for $ 9.

Handsome Rice It is a tiny place (really, super cuckoo) that prepares Korean bentos. Prices $ 10-13. We recommend Bulgogi (veal marinated with sweet soy sauce).

Charles'Country Pan Fried Chicken. It is located in Harlem and is not a place frequented by tourists. The typical thing here is to take the $ 10.95 menu that includes chicken and two companions (we recommend the waffel, in the purest southern style and the mac 'n cheese). Drinks for $ 2-4

Italian Panini pistol. Sometimes a good sandwich is what you want most and those who do in Pisillo are gentlemen sandwiches! They cost about $ 10-13 but they are huge: they can be shared between two people.

The Halal Guys. Do you feel like Arabic food? The owners of The Halal Guys started with a street stand and now have many. They say that here you can eat one of the best gyros in the city (there is also hummus and falafel). Rice dishes with meat cost about $ 8, gyros $ 6. If you are two and you are not too hungry ask for only one dish, we had half of each left over! You can see all the locations of their posts here.

Mamoun's. Another good option to enjoy Arabic cuisine. Beef shawarma for $ 6.5, 3 falafels for $ 2 and hummus for $ 2.25. Drinks 1.5 $.

Jimmy's Brothers We discovered this place, specialized in bbq, since it was close to our house. On Mondays they have a special menu: for $ 20 you can eat all the wings and ribs you want and drink as much beer as you can (yes, only for 2 hours). But believe us: it's enough time to explode!

Tikka Indian Grill. Good option if you feel like eating Indian (Williamsburg) food. They have lunch special that, for $ 9.95 includes samosa, main curry, rice or nan and dhal. We also attended a very nice boy from Bangladesh (although he speaks fast hehe).

The holy gastronomic trinity New York! It is almost impossible to travel to New York and not eat pizzas, hamburgers and / or hot dogs, so we are going to tell you what are the best places to do it ...

Pizza

2Bros Pizza, they have a $ 2.99 menu that includes 2 portions of pizza and a drink. If you only want one serving of pizza, it costs $ 1. There are other chains that have this same offer, just open your eyes wide!

Bleecker Street Pizza, Joe's Pizza Y Artichoke Pizza They are good options for eating quality cut pizza. Everyone is in the West Village so if you walk around the area and want pizza, then you have succeeded. The portions cost about $ 3-4.5.

Something more expensive (but VERY good) are the pizzas of Lombardi's in Little Italy or from Grimaldi's Y Juliana's in Brooklyn. Roberta's It is very fashionable, although not everyone has a good opinion of their pizza.

Advice: on our last visit to the city we discovered Kesté, an Italian pizzeria that offers (at noon) $ 5 pizza (they call it pizza popolare). Try the margherita: it is as rich as the one in Naples 🙂 It is in the West Village and the staff is also very nice.

2 pizza cuts and a drink for $ 3

Hamburgers

Shake shack, your hamburger is one of the cheapest in Manhattan, this is why it became so fashionable! It is not the best or the largest in the city but not bad at all. The simple cheeseburguer costs about $ 5.6, potatoes and drinks about $ 3 (each thing)

Five Guys, another mythical hamburger where, while waiting for your order, you can put on your boots with free peanuts. The bacon cheese burguer costs $ 9.19, potatoes $ 3.09 and drinks at $ 3.19 with refill: bone, you pay one and fill it as many times as you want. We personally liked it the most.

Burguer Joint, he became very famous for being the "underground burger" of Park Meridien ... although clandestine has little left: it is one of the most frequented restaurants in New York! A good alternative to try your delicious hamburger? Go to your other locations (33 West 8th Street and 119 West 56th Street). The cheesburguer costs about $ 9.

Jackson hole , J.G Melon and Bareburger They are good options too: rich rich burgers (calculates about $ 10-15).

Shake Shack Burgers

Hot Dogs

Gray's Papaya, here for $ 4.45 you will have two puppies and a natural juice. The place is tiny, without chairs, but it is an entire institution and, although the dogs are normal, it makes delicious juices.

Crif Dogs, its owner is called Cris (Crif when pronounced with a mouth full of hot dog!). Prices range from $ 4 to € 6 and has many types of dogs, from the classic to the tsunami (bacon, teryaki sauce, pineapple and chives).

Nathan's Famous, is "Famous" for something: its delicious hot dogs (3-4 $) that have been serving for about 90 years! The original store is located in Coney Island, but it has food trucks scattered throughout the city. Here you can see the locations.

Stray dog carts, this option will always remain, although be careful because prices vary at each site and each puppy (if you see that they have not put the price list ... we are going wrong). Next to parks, tourist places and very frequented places, where the rental of the license is more expensive, the dogs will probably cost $ 3, although it is not difficult to find places with dogs at $ 1 on the streets of Manhattan.

One of the most beloved options (at least for us) to eat cheaply in New York is to stop by Chinatown and give yourself a binge of dumplings, although like those of Beijing none! These are some of the sites we recommend you try:

Shu Jiao Fu Zhou Cuisine, here you can eat 10 dumplings for $ 3.5! In addition there are other cheap dishes such as different soups for $ 2-3.5. An experience!

Prosperity Dumpling, with many types of dumplings for $ 1.5-4, soups and pancakes for $ 2-6. Update 2018: is closed 🙁

Another great option (with prices similar to the previous ones) is Vanessa Dumplings, which also has a store in Williamsburg. Also, we did not test dumplings of North dumplings, but Rober's Canarian cousin guarantees us that they are tremendous!

Wanton soup, dumplings and noodles with peanut sauce for $ 8 at Shu Jiao Fu Zhou

Wherever you go you will meet the Delis, What are they? They are open 24 hours where you can buy products or take-away food. It is a very good option to eat cheap and varied: there is usually a salad and buffet meal area (it is paid according to the weight of the food, usually about $ 6-10), ready meals, noodle soups, coffee machine, etc. There are also many that offer snacks!

An alternative is one of many Whole food, a supermarket with food area (hot and cold) that also charges by weight ($ 9.90 per pound). There are a lot of variety of products (salad buffet, vegan products, meat, fish, fruit, desserts ...).

A place that we have not tried yet but that looked great is the Bistro Market Place, in the area of Penn Station (312 W 34th St). Here as in Whole Foods you charge by weight but there is something very cool: if you go from 3pm, it costs 40% less! Let's see if we go one of these days and update info 🙂

If you have rented an apartment in New York and have a kitchen, a good idea is to cook at home and save about $$$. Our favorite supermarket is Trader Joe's.

No, we have not gone crazy! There is a bar that offers free (or very cheap) food, whenever you ask for something to drink.

Crocodile lounge, here when you order a drink they will give you a bonus for a free margarita pizza (if you add $ 1 you can ask to be topped!). It's not going to be the richest pizza in New York, obviously, but hey, it's not bad, right? Drink prices are around $ 6-10 (Coors Light costs $ 4 during Happy Hour, until 7pm).

Rudy's Bar and Grill, in this divebar with each drink they will give you a free hot dog (beware, you have to ask for it)! A chollazo if we think that the pints are from $ 3 at any time! In addition there is always good music and good atmosphere.

Croxley's Ales, it is a bar where every day there is a different offer: for example on Fridays from 4 to 7pm with consumption you have a free wings buffet! Beers from $ 6 (during happy hour, from 4 to 7pm, drinks cost $ 1 less). Here you can see all the promotions. Update 2019: it is closed 🙁

Aligator Lounge, is the sister bar of the Crocodile Lounge. It's in Brooklyn, so if you're out there it's a good option. Update 2019: it is closed 🙁

Two pints and two puppies = $ 6 (plus $ 2 tip) at Rudy's

Huge portions of Halal Guys

Also: don't forget the street carts, they sell from hot dogs to kebabs and Asian dishes. Come on, that starving in New York is not going to die and if you follow our advice your bank account will be happy and happy.
