The history of Copenhagen is extensive, it was one of the most important cities of the Baltic Sea for centuries and then retains many emblematic monuments. But not only lives from the past, Copenhagen is a city of trends, with character and personality. But also of contrasts, enjoy the moment, rejoice in the small details, breathe vigorously the smell of the sea and enjoy the tranquility of the flight of a seagull. Come on, let's go to the mess, let's tell you 20 things to see and do in Copenhagen:

1. Nothing better than breaking the ice with the city participating in a free tour, which will take you to explore the historic center. It lasts 2.5 hours and although it is free, remember to leave a tip. You can book it here.

2. Approach Nyhavn, the famous canal surrounded by colorful houses. It is an extremely beautiful place (and if you want to make the frikada, do it listening to the song “Copenhagen” by Vetusta Morla). This area is full of local and typical bars, so if you fancy a beer (and you don't mind dropping the pasta)… it's your place!

Get one Copenhagen Card, will allow you to save a good money as it includes the entrance to the main attractions of the city, in addition to public transport and a walk along the river. It costs from € 55 and you can buy it here.

3. We couldn't do it, because when we went (February) it was closed. But if you go to Copenhagen between April and September you have to enter the Tivoli Gardens, a super vintage amusement park opened in 1843. Admission is free with the Copenhagen Card, but costs DKK 100 (about € 13), although the attractions are paid separately. It also opens in November / December, when a very beautiful Christmas market is set up. Tip: if you want to enter the Tivoli park and upload as many times as you want to all the attractions you want, this all-inclusive ticket may compensate you (€ 31).

4. The Rosenborg Castle It is another essential. The one that was royal summer residence of Christian IV of Denmark has a lot of charm. Today, this castle houses a museum about the Danish monarchy. We personally believe that seeing it from the outside is enough, but if you feel like entering, it costs DKK 110 (included in the Copenhagen Card).

5. Facing the castle isThe King's Garden, nice gardens (nice if it's not winter, believe us hehe). You can take the opportunity to have a picnic (yes, we always think about eating) or just relax before continuing with more things to see and do in Copenhagen. Just do not forget to visit the famous sculpture of Hans Christian Andersen, in the center of the park.

6. And where do kings live in winter? In the Amalienborg Palace. Every day you can attend the changing of the guard, they start the march from their barracks, passing through Rosenborg Castle and through the city streets, until finishing in Amalienborg, at 12:00.

7. Do you like castles very much and still wanting more? Take advantage that you are here to see the biggest castle in all of Scandinavia: the Frederiksborg Castle. It is in Hillerød, about 40 km north of Copenhagen and the entrance costs DKK 75 (included in the Copenhagen Card).

8. And on the way approach to Dyrehaven, a forest full of deer with a surprise. At the ladito you can enjoy the oldest amusement park in the world: Bakken, which began operating in 1583, freaks out! Admission is free, although if you want to climb the attractions there is an entrance of DKK 269. More info.

9. If you want to have a different perspective of the city, a good idea is to give a boat trip on its canals. This costs only € 12 (lasts € 1). You already know that it is included in the Copenhagen Card.

10. Although to live a truly different experience, approach Christiania, the most alternative neighborhood in Copenhagen, full of street art and with a street with a name that says it all: Pusher Street. Yes, here buying and smoking weed is legal. We went for free, we had read somewhere that was not entirely safe but no problems (yes, use common sense and do not take selfies with the XD camels). Although a good alternative is to sign up for a free tour like this.

Tired? Well, we still have 10 things to see and do in Copenhagen!

11. If the weather is good and you are already hungry, we recommend you go from Christania to the island of Refshaleøen, an old industrial zone where one of the largest shipyards in the world (B&W) operated until its closure in 1996. Today it has been converted into an area of diversity, with offices of innovative small businesses, restaurants, cafes and an interesting cultural scene . Although it is best to go through the Reffen Copenhagen Street Food, a street food market and put on your boots!

12. Strøget It is the longest shopping street in all of Europe, so if you feel like a shopping session, you know where to go.

13. In the Christiansborg Palace You can visit the Danish Parliament (free 45-minute tour in English, book here) and several royal rooms and rooms. It also can climb your tower, the highest in the city with 106 meters. Admission for all rooms of the palace costs DKK 150 (included in the Copenhagen Card). But climbing the tower is free! Of course, close on Mondays. More info here.

14. The Marble ChurchWith its spectacular dome, it is undoubtedly the most beautiful religious building in Copenhagen.

15. A good overview of the city is obtained from the top of the Rundetårn tower (the round tower), in the historic center. Uploading costs 25 DKK.

16. Take a tour of Nyboder, a neighborhood full of yellow houses with a curious past: here the members of the military navy lived with their families. Curiosity: it will sound to you if you have seen the movie of “The Danish Girl”.

17. A visit to Copenhagen is not complete without visiting its most famous character: the little mermaid statue (inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's story).

18. And speaking of the famous Danish writer ... did you know that he lived at Nyhavn number 20? It's about the Boel house, a very flirtatious little red house.

19. Ok, the Danish cuisine It is neither as famous nor as rich as Spanish or Italian (from the purest objectivity ...), but that does not mean that it does not deserve to be explored. And what better than a food tour? This costs € 30 and is not bad considering Copenhagen prices and you can taste beer, eat sandwiches, hot dogs, typical dishes and Danish desserts.
